A PAIR OF MEISSEN (AUGUSTUS REX) PURPLE-GROUND CHINOISERIE FLARED BEAKER-VASES
CIRCA 1730, BLUE AR. MONOGRAM MARKS
Painted in the workshop of J.G. Höroldt, each side with a slender ogival cartouche painted with chinoiserie figures, one vase with an Oriental holding a plate and a sprig of flowers beside an infant with a fan and before a flowering tree, the other with an Oriental holding a basket on a stick before a pedestal with bowls and vases, the other vase with an Oriental lady holding a parasol before a child standing on a table playing with drapery, the other side with the rear view of an Oriental lady standing making tea beside a child with a basket on his head, all on grassy terraces with flowering plants and objects in silhouette in the foreground, within elaborate broad gilt line borders with iron-red and yellow diaper ornament divided by iron-red yellow and blue flowerheads, the flared rims with a band of gilt interlocking scrollwork, flowerheads, lines and petal ornament (both vases broken and extensively restored)
