Related 'brass hoop' cisterns were supplied in 1759 for Dumfries House, Scotland by Thomas Chippendale (d.1779) (C. Gilbert, The Life and Work of Thomas Chippendale, London, 1978, vol. 11, fig 121). A similar one, supplied for Novar, Scotland is featured in J. Zoffany's 1781 portrait entitled the 'Ferguson Group' (R.Edwards, The Shorter Dictionary of English Furniture, 1954 p.640, fig 7).
