Louis de Monard débute sa carrière comme peintre mais se dirige très vite vers la sculpture, en exposant de 1902 à 1904, à la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. Il porte un grand intérêt au monde animalier qu'il représente en éditions très limitées. Il travaille également avec la Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres, pour laquelle il réalise des porcelaines non émaillées
