The rectangular top above a fluted frieze, on tapering fluted baluster legs with turned feet, with batten-carrying holes, nails on the underside with traces of hessian, probably to hold a squab cushion, restorations to satinwood crossbanding

A pair of related mahogany caned stools attributed to Gillows was sold anonymously, Christie's, London, 26 April 2007, lot 313 (£10,800 including premium), and a further related caned stool, also attributed to Gillows, was sold anonymously, Christie's, London, 24 January 2008, lot 154. The combination of ebonising, satinwood crossbanding and fluted legs are features often associated with the Golden Square cabinet-makers Ince and Mayhew.
