Dr. Bernhard Schnackenburg has kindly confirmed the attribution of this and the following two lots on the basis of photographs. As with a number of drawings that Ostade's pupil Dusart inherited from his master upon the latter's death in 1685, the brown wash in this lot seems to have been added by Dusart.
