The three Ages of Man

The composition of the present copy is related to the picture in the collection of Doria Pamphili, Rome (H.E. Wethey, The Paintings of Titian, III, 1976, no.36-5, fig.175) which is regarded as a copy after a lost autograph replica by Titian of the painting, now in the National Gallery of Scotland, Edinburgh (Wethey, op.cit., no.36, plates 13-16). In contrast to the Edinburgh picture the copy in the Doria Pamphili collection omits the Gothic chapel on the left of the broken tree.
