Robert Prior, (1780-1853), was the second generation chair-maker of the Prior Family of Uxbridge, Middlesex, who are one of the most distinguished families in the history of English Windsor Chair making. This particular model epitomises the quality of their chairs and the underarm splat may be a unique feature to the family. For a detailed discussion of the Prior Family dynasty and for examples of chairs stamped and attributed to this workshop see Dr. B. Cotton 'The English Regional Chair', Woodbridge, 1990, Pages 76-80
