Château Beychevelle
When ships sailing down the Gironde passed Château Beychevelle in the late 16th-century, they were required to partially lower their sails in reverence to the château's owner and Admiral of France, the Duke of Eperon. Because of this, the château was given the name "Beychevelle" a term which is either (depending on who you ask) derived from the Old Gascon "beyche velle" meaning "half mast" or from the French words "baisse," meaning lower, and "voile," meaning sail.
Château Beychevelle--Vintage 1959
Saint-Julien, 4me cru classé
In original wooden case
"Several English bottlings, the best from the most dependable Army & Navy cellars. It was a hormonious, fully evolved, velvety mouthful. Probably at its best (1983). A decade later a good château-bottling." Last noted May 1992. At best **** MB, Vintage Wine
