"M. Mentzelopoulos' second vintage. Well over a dozen notes from autumn of 1981, fragrance frequently reiterated. Also flavoury, but the raw '79 tannin hard to get away from. The last three notes all, coincidentally, at vertical tastings; the first, in 1995, during a Hollywood (Florida) Wine Society weekend: cherry red; bouquet quickly opening up; crisp, surprisingly attractive for a '79. Next at Wagner's tasting in 1997: still very deep and intense; also fragrant, sweet, slightly 'meaty' bouquet and flavour. Very tannic and, I thought, a vinegary whiff. Not much change, sweeter than expected, good flavour, lean and with leathery tannic texture." Last tasted Nov 2000 *** I doubt if it will change much MB, Vintage Wine
