Château Figeac--Vintage 1970
Saint-Emilion, 1er grand cru classé
Levels: bottom neck or better; two wrinkled labels
"An excellent 1970. At Figeac, the cépage mix is more or less equally divided between Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and, unusually in St Émilion, Cabernet Sauvignon. Figeac featured pretty prominently in my notes in the mid-1970s. It almost made my equal top marks at the 'great Danes' tasting of '70s and I noticed its glorious, uplifting fragrance and tastes throughout the 1908s. An amalgam of conflicts, delicacy and rip-roaring fruit, vigorous, ripe tannins. Beginning to show signs of gentle decline at Gidleigh Park in Devon in 1994, yet the following year almost rumbustious, very earthy, touch of iron and supporting tannin Last tasted June 1995 ****" MB, Vintage Wine
