Depicting the French versus the Moors, the kings and queens both with sceptres and sheafs of grass respectively, the bishops as fous with tapering bodies, the knights as cavalry men, the rooks as turrets, the pawns as soldiers with helmets versus the turbanned Moors with loop ear-rings
The king -- 3 3/8in. (8.5cm.) high; the pawn -- 2¼in. (5.7cm.) high
