Louise Rayner spent several months painting at Knole in the late 1860s, and some of her work was illustrated for the Art Journal by S. C. Hall, The Stately Homes of England (Occasionally open to the People), 1869, no. 8, which featured Knole House. For another view of the Brown Gallery at Knole, see lot 82.
