Born in 1752 Sebastian Erard established his Marlborough Street branch in 1786 which he subsequently ran with his nephew Pierre.Although also a piano maker, the harp always seemed more important to him and he is responsible for patenting the double-action harp in 1810 which is regarded as the date of the invention of the concert harp.
