The long cylindrical shaft of the brush finely carved with a scholar seated on rockwork under a pine tree as his assistant fetches water from a stream, all between lotus lappets continuing to the tip as overlapping petals where the hairs are inserted, the end encircled by key-fret, the cover carved with a poetic inscription in cursive script against a floral diaper and between bands of demi-florets and key-fret, surmounted on the top with a shou symbol
