On August 15, 1951, John Davison Rockefeller, Jr. (JDR Jr.) married Mrs. Martha Baird Allen, a former concert pianist and the widow of Arthur M. Allen, a classmate at Brown University. JDR Jr. was a generous philanthropist and the son of John D. Rockefeller, founder of the Standard Oil Company. Martha Baird Rockefeller became a respected philanthropist in her own right, and created the Martha Baird Rockefeller Fund for Music in 1957.
