拍品专文

With its serpentine outline and the characteristic shape and veneer of the angles, the present lot relates to the oeuvre of Mathias Engström (1725-1804). After having trained in the workshop of Erik Bergström, he soon found success in his own right. At the height of his career, his workshop counted no less than 39 apprentices.
Commodes closely related to the present lot are illustrated in T. Sylven, Mästarnas Möbler. Stockholmsarbeten 1700-1850, Stockholm, 1996, p.113-115 and in E. Fischer, Svenska Möbler, Stockholm, 1938, p.101.
