Each with serpentine rockwork toprail centred by a canopy above a pierced interlaced chinoiserie splat with rockwork stiles, above a padded drop-in seat covered in floral needlework, on square legs joined by stretchers, one inscribed twice in chalk '146', each inscribed in pencil on the front seat rail 'Manwaring' (2)

The chair backs have ribbon-fretted splats in the mid-18th century 'Gothic' fashion, while incorporating tablets of double bracing such as feature in a Chinese pattern for a 'Ladies Dressing Chair' in Robert Manwaring's, The Chair-Maker's Guide, 1766 (pl. 30).
