This exquisite fuel lamp is an early and rare example of Tiffany Studios' production. Tiffany's earliest lamps were made to burn oil, and the blown glass base was a decorative means of accomodating the font. The shade comprises panels of glass leaded together covered by a layer of intricate bronze filigree. The whole sits on shaped feet formed of bronze and pressed glass. While the overall effect is exotic, perhaps Moorish or Byzantine, there are no direct quotations from any particular time or place--evidence of the masterful creativity of Tiffany Studios.
