Oval, the hinged cover finely chased with an applied border of thistles, roses, and leaves in green, red, and white gold, enclosing a ground of chased foliage in yellow gold, centering the insignia of Columbia within an inscription and above a monogram, the sides and base with engine-turning, the interior with a presentation inscription, marked inside base and cover

The inscription reads:
Presented by the Trustees of the Bolivar Mining Association to Joseph Edye Esqr as an Acknowledgement for the zealous and important Services he has so kindly rendered to the Association, 1825

John Northam, along with A.J. Strachan, made gold boxes for the Royal goldsmiths and retailers Rundell, Bridge and Rundell.
