Ernst August Leuteritz was employed at Meissen from 1836-1886 as a designer and later as Director of the modelling department. He developed this type of enamelled decoration in the mid-19th century in response to renewed interest in the Rennaisance style. See Lawrence Mitchell, Meissen Collector's Catalogue, Woodbridge, Suffolk, 2004, p. 135, pl. 37, no. H 148 for a mid-19th century example of this model in the 1910 Meissen catalogue.
