This clock is related to an 18th century model with two putti supporting a sphere representing heaven (see Tardy, French Clocks the World Over, 1981, vol. II, p. 100). A similar clock, surmounted by a garland-breaing putto, sold these rooms, 23 April 2004, lot 119 ($21,510).
