This breakfront bookcase is designed in the George IV antiquarian style with Gothic-panelled doors above richly-figured panelled doors. It incorporates a secretaire-cabinet in the centre. The reeded panelled doors are reminiscent of the work of Gillows of London and Lancaster, such as the library bookcase supplied by Gillows to John Lloyd Wynne (d. 1862) for Coed Coch, Denbighshire (see Christies, London, 18 April 1996, lot 234).
