Showing lasting influences of the Régence style, this fauteuil is a fine example of the production during the early Louis XV period. Its strong moulding and bold carving seem to derivate from the oeuvre of Jean-Baptiste Cresson, of which a related fauteuil, circa 1740, is illustrated in B. Pallot, The art of the chair in the eighteenth-Century France, Paris, 1989, p. 265.
