A lock of his hair wrapped within a folded piece of paper and marked indistinctly in pencil Napoleon's hair/St Helena June 1816, and further wrapped in another folded piece of paper marked indistinctly in pencil Napoleon's hair St Helena June 3. 1816 and then in a third piece of folded paper which is marked Napoleon's Hair St Helena June 3. 1815 and all contained within a calling card envelope inscribed From Harriet M. Jany. 1860 Taken from Napoleon's coffin & given to H.L.M by A. Dalzill Esq.

It is evident that the person writing the third piece of paper had mis-read the inner pieces of paper which, under close examination, read 1816, when Napoleon would have been in the first year of his exile on St Helena.
