The present set of five paintings appear to have been inspired by compositions known from a series of six paintings on the subject of the Peasant Wedding that were until 1939 in the collection of Schütz von Leerodt as by Pieter Breughel the Younger but which were subsequently convincingly attributed to Marten van Cleve by George Marlier (loc. cit.).
