The present bust of Diana the Huntress, or Diana Chasseresse, is an adapted life-size cast from the 4th century AD Roman original, itself a copy of a lost Greek bronze, housed in the Louvre, Paris. The original was greatly admired since it was first recorded in Fontainbleau in 1586, and during the 18th and 19th centuries was reproduced both on a small and large scale in plaster, lead and bronze.
