A Regency mahogany longcase regulator
The movement by Frodsham, London (probably William James Frodsham d. 1842), the case by T. N. Lowther. Circa 1810
The engraved silvered regulator dial with observatory markings to the seconds ring with further red-painted markers by every five seconds, delicate blued steel hands, signed Frodsham London with evidence of earlier engraving stoned out on the reverse, best quality movement with six double-screwed pillars securing the thick brass plates with chamfered shoulders, delicate wheel train with five crossings, end-caps throughout the wheel train, Vulliamy-type deadbeat escapement with jewelled pallets, escape wheel with screwed collet, glass jar mercury pendulum suspended from a brass block on the backplate with integral beat adjustment in the block, maintaining power, the movement protected by a bent glass cover, the seatboard stamped by the case maker T. N. Lowther, case hood with ebony ripple moulding beneath a stepped chamfered top, stop-chamfered angles to the front, wide glasses to the side of the hood, brass-linded glazed trunk door with similar stop-chamfered angles

The altered signature on the dial was probably originally engraved with a retailer's name. This was either then deemed to have been a mistake or more likely the order from the retailer was rescinded and the dial subsequently re-engraved and sold by the manufacturers.
