The Banner was a full-rigged sailing ship built in Gilmour's Yard at Quebec, Canada, in 1863. Owned by McDonnell, with her home port at Ardrossan, she was registered at 1,195 tons and measured 183 feet in length with 36½ foot beam. Intended for the India trade sailing out of Liverpool, she continued on this run after being sold to W.H. Owen of Liverpool in the late 1860s, but later did some voyages to South America out of Cardiff prior to disappearing from record.
