The original of this work, now in the National Maritime Museum at Greenwich (BHC 2901), was commissioned by Captain William Locker in 1777 and subsequently passed into the hands of Nelson's descendants before being acquired by the N.M.M. from the Trafalgar House Sale in 1948.
