The glazed circular enamel dial with Roman and Arabic chapters signed 'Roque A PARIS', the movement signed 'Roque AParis' and numbered 'No 563', within a pearled bezel, surmounted by a laurel swag and wreath, the canted rectangular case with pierced blue-glass backed panels to the front with laurel-surrounded trellis and fluted angles surmounted by pine-cone finials to the angles and vase with berried finial, the stepped base with conforming baluster panels and paterae to the angles on toupie feet, swags to top urn, pendulum and winders lacking

Joseph-Léonard Roque, maître in 1770.

After achieving his maîtrise, Roque specialized in the production of luxury clocks, employing bronziers such as Jean-Joseph de Saint-Germain and François Vion for his cases and François Rémond as a gilder. His clients included Louis XV, Louis XVI, Marie Antoinette and Mesdames Victoire and Adeläide, the daughters of Louis XV, as well as collectors such as the duc de Polignac and M. Beaujon.
