Godefroy Dester, maître in 1774.

Exquisite small tables decorated with floral trellis parquetry in light woods like this pair, were a speciality of Dester and his contemporaries Mathieu-Guillaume Cramer (maître in 1771) and Roger van der Cruse dit Lacroix (maître in 1749). A virtually identical example was sold from the collection of the Earl of Rosebery, Mentmore, Bucks., Sotheby's, house sale, 25 May 1977, lot 441, while another virtually identical table was sold anonymously Christie's, London, 12 June 2003, lot 1079.
