A celebrated romantic castle, Eridge was built by the amateur architect Taylor, incorporating those parts of the original castle built for the 2nd Earl of Abervagenny in 1787 that were still standing. The castle was demolished between 1938. Tunbridgeware boxes of related design showing Eridge castle are illustrated in E.H. & E.R. Pinto Tunbridge and Scottish Souvenir Woodware, London 1970, fig.13. A superstructure atop the tallest tower of the castle was demolished around 1874, and earlier Tunbridgeware views of the castle include it.
