Château Latour--Vintage 1945
Pauillac, 1er cru classé. Château-bottled
Lot 158 one label very bin-soiled and damaged, one very bin-soiled and detached and one without label. Levels mid-shoulder. Lot 159 three very bin-soiled damaged and detached labels, one missing. Levels: one upper, two mid/upper and one mid-shoulder. Lot 160 two with loose and very bin-soiled labels, two without labels. Levels: three mid and one mid/upper-shoulder. Lot 161 very bin-soiled and damaged labels, two detached. Levels: one mid/upper and five mid/low-shoulder. Lot 162 detached labels, badly bin-soiled and some slightly damaged. Levels: one base of neck, eight top and three upper-shoulder. Lot 163 one slightly raised cork. Nine detached labels, one of which badly damaged and three badly bin-soiled and damaged. Levels: three upper, seven mid/upper and two mid-shoulder
Tasting note: A great wine. Surely one of the best ever Latours, drinking beautifully now but with many years more life. An amalgam of notes gathered at dinners and tastings: always deep, with an opaque core, spicy bouquet, eucalyptus, cedar, smoky tea (Lapsang), cheesy - not smelly cheese but a sort of sweaty tannin. Full-bodied, rich, complete, silky, tannins, complex, great length. ***** M.B.
