Henry Stone accompanied his younger brother, the sculptor Nicholas Stone, to Rome in 1638. They took with them the celebrated portrait of King Charles in three positions that Anthony van Dyck had painted the year before to enable Gian-Lorenzo Bernini to sculpt a portrait bust of the King. An oil copy by Henry Stone of the Van Dyck composition is in the Jones Collection, Victoria and Albert Museum, no. 528.
