The present beaker vase is of an unusually large size; a similarly tall vase was sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong, 3 May 1994, lot 232. Compare also with a smaller vase of this shape and design, included in the exhibition Qing Imperial Porcelain, Nanjing Museum and the Art Gallery, Chinese University of Hong Kong, 1995, illustrated in the Catalogue, no. 95.
Vases of this type are usually found as part of an altar garniture, with matching incense burner and candlestick holders, all invariably decorated with bajixiang and lotus scrolls. Cf. a Qianlong-marked ruby-ground five-piece garniture set in the National Palace Museum, included in A Special Exhibition of Incense Burners and Perfumers Throughout the Dynasties, Taiwan, 1994, illustrated in the Catalogue, no. 105.
