YONGZHENG SIX-CHARACTER MARK WITHIN A DOUBLE-CIRCLE AND OF THE PERIOD (1723-1735)

Delicately potted and finely enamelled in a characteristic palette with a central medallion enclosing a scaly dragon in pursuit of a 'flaming pearl' amidst clouds and fire scrolls, the underside with a frieze of two further dragons in mutual pursuit, all within double-line borders

Compare a very similar dish, formerly in the Yokogawa Collection, illustrated in the Catalogue of the Tokyo National Museum, no. 631, and another example from the Jarras Collection, Part II, sold in these Rooms, 8 October 1990, lot 315.

There is also a range of comparable doucai dragon dishes with only slight variations in the treatment of the clouds in the cavetto, all of various sizes smaller than the present dish, and were sold in our Paris Rooms, 15 June 2004, lots 185-187.
