A FINE FAMILLE VERTE MONTH CUP
KANGXI SIX-CHARACTER MARK WITHIN A DOUBLE-CIRCLE AND OF THE PERIOD (1662-1722)

The cup is delicately potted and finely painted and enamelled with clumps of flowering cymbidium orchids with long slender leaves, emblematic of the seventh month, the reverse inscribed with a seasonal couplet by a Tang poet, Guangdian qingxiang fa, gaotai yuan chuiyin, 'The subtle perfume of orchids pervades the great hall as music plays on the lofty terraces', terminating with a seal mark, Shang, 'Appreciation'
