This charming if somewhat worn carpet uses a simplified variant of the afshan design so popular in the Caucasian region in the eighteenth century. The weave and colouring are similar to those of a small rug with a shrub and tree design sold in our King Street Rooms from the Davide Halevim Collection, 14 February 2001, lot 131.
