The white-painted oak frames enclosing fitted brass grids supporting a variety of lithothane panels of differing subjects including panoramic views, including the Bay of Naples with Vesuvius erupting; St. Petersburg; genre scenes; copies after Old Masters, including Raphael and Carlo Dolci; portraits of monarchs and historical figures, including Napoleon, some panels lacking or damaged, some repetitions

These lithophane panels were perhaps acquired by Lord George William Russell (d.1846) following his appointment as Ambassador to Berlin in 1831, or his son Hastings, subsequently 9th Duke (d.1891). Probably fitted into the East Wing at Woburn, they would have complemented the 'Museum Room' with its Natural History specimens and 'curios' in glass cases.
