These pediments formed part of the triumphal-arched and acorn-finialed window-pelmets that were introduced in the early 19th century by John Russell, 6th Duke of Bedford (d.1839), and feature in situ in early 20th century photographs of the Venetian Drawing Room, which he created for the display of Caneletto's Venetian paintings that had been acquired by John Russell, 4th Duke (d. 1771). This form of Grecian scrolled pediment featured in Thomas Hope's Household Furniture and Interior Decoration, 1807 (pl.27); and was also popularised by George Smith's Collection of Designs for Household Furniture, 1808.
