The Vialard family have long had a loyal following in England: my own first taste was of the 1953 vintage, shipped in cask and bottled in the cellar of a doctor in Cheshire. Coincidentally, however, I tasted - drank, enjoyed - the 1985 at a dinner in honour of Louis Vialard recently held at Gravetye manor. An impériale. It was perfect, all that a really good claret can and should be. M.B.
