Chief designer for Marimekko from 1953-1960, Vuokko and her architect husband Antii Nurmesniemi founded the Vuokko textile and garment label in 1964. The loose-fitting clothing utilised zippers, press-studs and Velco, dispensed with darts and other traditional tailoring details.
