AN ACHAEMENID SILVER BOWL
Circa 6th Century B.C.
Hemispherical in form, with a round base and slightly flaring rim, the exterior ornamented with two sets of reclining goats positioned back to back, each animal with its bearded head turned back, with a short snout, large bulging eye and underslung horn, the fur rendered with stamped arcs, a single row of arcs in a band extending from the foreleg over the hindquarters, the tail curved upwards, a stylized tree topped with a palmette between the goats, four pointed buds on stems radiating below, framed above and below by a band of guilloche
