Lady Amherst commissioned Howard Carter to paint this scene based on a photograph by her ancestor, C.J. Fountain, Esq. The Ptolemaic temple at Armant, ancient Iuny, was still in existence in 1861, the date that it was photographed by C.J. Fountain. By 1903, the date that Carter painted this scene, the temple was completely destroyed.
