DOMAINE CHANDON DE BRIALLES
This Domaine's fortunes were transformed during the late 1980s, when two remarkable ladies, both members of the owning, de Nicolay family, decided to base themselves at the estate, supervising every activity. They are Countess Nadine de Nicolay and her daughter Claude. Both were totally committed to low yields, minimal handling and constant attention to detail. The red wines show great purity of ripe fruit, very fine expressions of Pinot aroma, and beguiling, fleshy textures. The Corton blanc is a magnificent, unusual Grand Cru, partly grown on the Bressandes site. Pernand Ile des Vergelesses 1997 blanc is luscious and now absolutely ready, the magnums of red - consistently the best wine of its commune - having also reached maturity. The two Corton-Bressandes are classic examples, ready but still improving. AH
