A SUPERB RANGE OF BURGUNDIES, SHIPPED DIRECTLY FROM THE DOMAINES Over the last 2 decades, we have been living in a golden age for Burgundy. No longer are superb bottles to be found only at a small core of Domaines and Négoçiants. The know-how, and the determination, to produce great wines from the region's unique, historic sites have now spread out rapidly. Also, there has been a string of great, and excellent, vintages. We are immensely honoured by the breadth and depth of stock which has been consigned directly from the Domaines for this Burgundy auction. It is almost unheard-of for the best Estates and Négoçiants to consign their wines directly to auction. Their productions are so tiny, and are awaited with such fervour, that little mature stock is ever left in their cellars. But here may be found rare jewels from Dugat-Py, Dujac, Guffens, Comtes Lafon, Domaine Leflaive, J-F Mugnier, Ramonet, Roulot, Armand Rousseau, Trapet, along with Bouchard Père, Joseph Drouhin, J Faiveley, Louis Jadot, Etienne Sauzet and many more. Lots 373 to 613 are all still lying in the Burgundy cellars where they have lain since bottling. The condition and provenance of these wines could not be better. They are arranged in alphabetical order, by Domaine. Three private Burgundy collectors have also consigned rare bottles from their cellars (lots 614 to 631), which will likewise only be shipped after the sale. There is an extraordinary breadth of offering of classic bottles, rarities and curiosities, along with many magnums, and several larger formats. Since 1987, this has been owned by insurance giant AXA (which also owns Ch Pichon-Baron and Quinta do Noval). Hands-on wine-maker and manager Jean-Pierre de Smet is happily given a free rein to craft some of the Côte de Nuits's most elegant, dependable bottles. Nuits-Saint-Georges Clos des Forêts-Saint-Georges and Clos de l'Arlot are both solely-owned by this estate, the first being richly structured, with concentration, refinement and potential, the second usually reaching maturity more quickly. We have superb, large formats from classic vintages of both fine sites. AH
