Each with reeded two-tier superstructure above a canted rectangular shelf above two mahogany-lined frieze drawers with ebony knob handles, above a pair of panelled doors, one enclosing two mahogany shelves, on a plinth base, one lacking shelves and pegs, one with fragmentary paper label on the reverse 'PODMORE & POWELLS, UPHOLSTERERS, / Cabinet-makers, Carvers, Gilders, /AND APPRAISERS EASTGATE STREET', with blue bordered paper label inscribed in ink 'No. 20 room'

These chiffoniers can be dated quite specifically to the years when William Podmore (1779-1832), a well known Chester cabinet-maker of the early 19th century, was briefly in partnership with Edward Frodsham Powell and Thomas Powell (The Dictionary of English Furniture Makers, Leeds, 1986, p. 704.)
