TWO ENGLISH HANGERS
Late 17th Century
The first with narrow curved single-edged saw-backed blade, struck on each face with a full-face crowned head mark, the brass hilt comprising short straight rear quillon, slender knuckle-guard, bonnet-shaped cap-pommel, and natural buckhorn grip with, at the bottom, a brass ferrule with two tongue-shaped upper projections, cast and chased in relief at intervals with panels containing foliage, nude figures, some reclining, cherub-heads, and horsemen, some under a crown; the second with similar blade, with a running wolf mark on each face, the iron hilt (pitted) comprising short lobe-ended rear quillon, slender knuckle-guard with double central moulding between chiselled foliage, and flat cap-pommel, decorated with fine reeding throughout, and with natural staghorn grip
