Winifred Sandys was the eldest daughter of the painter Frederick Augustus Sandys. Taught by her father, she bacame a successful artist exhibiting both pastels and watercolours.

This is a copy of the artist's father's drawing of 1901, which was exhibited at the Brighton Museum and Art Gallery in 1974. Percy Wood (d. 1904) was the sculptor of the Brant Memorial of 1886 at Brantford, Ontario, and was given this honorary title (which means 'The Lasting One') by the Mohawk tribe.
