Châteauneuf du Pape--Vintage 1990
Rhône, Marcoux
"The 1990 regular cuvée, which some merchants have been promoting as the Cuvée Vieilles Vignes, is an exclusive blend put together by the American importer. A remarkable Châteauneuf du Pape, it has been bolstered by the inclusion of wine made from 50 to 90-year old vines. Consequently, it is a far stronger "regular bottling" than Domaine de Marcoux produced in 1989, as well as much richer than the cuvée sold in Europe. The wine reveals a dark ruby/purple color, and a huge nose of jammy, sweet black fruits and herbs. In the mouth, the sweetness, glycerin, high alcohol, and gorgeous extract levels make for a sumptuous drinking experience. The tannins are silky and the finish is formidable. It should evolve gracefully for 10-15 years." Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, Issue 83
